Wedding Food

greg | April 30, 2010

On Monday I sent this email to everyone who will be joining us in Washington for our wedding:

Rene bought his airplane ticket two days ago and will be joining us in Washington. Rene and I talked about food this weekend. Rene wants to cook A LOT. He wants to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner the three full days we are there. He wants to do four or five courses for dinner the night of our wedding. He wants to make a wedding cake.

I’ve known Rene for five years. With the utmost confidence I can say that there is nothing he enjoys more than cooking and serving other people with his culinary talents. Nothing else even comes close. I say this because he wants to be sure that no one feels bad or guilty when he spends the bulk of his time in the kitchen over those four days. There’s nothing else he’d rather be doing.

If anyone has any dietary restrictions or special requests, let him know. He loves to accomodate.

Also, its worth mentioning that a couple hours ago San Pellegrino’s 2010 Top 50 Restaurants in the World list was released.

Alinea, where he has worked for the last 3 years, is #7 in the world and #1 in America.

Celar Can Roca in Spain, where Rene will be going to work one week after our wedding, is #4.

We found an apartment

greg | April 30, 2010

Earlier this week Rachel and I signed a lease on a bi-level coach house near North and Leavitt in Wicker Park.

For the non-Chicagoans, coach houses are smaller secondary structures located behind the primary residence. The name comes from their original purpose: to house horses and carriages (today they would be more appropriately referred to as a “guest house”).

Only 40 days to go. We couldn’t be more excited.

A cabin in the middle of nowhere

greg | April 23, 2010

We have finalized our honeymoon plans.

For our first two nights we will be staying at Willows Lodge.

For our last two nights we will be staying in Seattle.  Neither Rachel or I have ever been to Seattle, but we’ve heard nothing but great things and are excited to check out the city.

And for the three nights in between we will be staying in a 500 sqft. cabin, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The cabin was just finished in March and sits on 20 acres of private land, just minutes away from Olympic National Park.

According to the description:

Within 20 minutes you can venture into the moss covered rain forest, enjoy a pristine glacier carved lake, hike hundreds of miles of wilderness trails with crystal clear rivers and majestic waterfalls, be awed by the sandy rugged beaches, and soak in natural hot springs

Love is…

Love is patient
Love is kind
It does not envy
It does not boast
It is not proud
It is not rude
It is not self-seeking
It is not easily angered
It keeps no record of wrongs
Love does not delight in evil
but rejoices with the truth
It always protects
Always trusts
Always hopes
Always perseveres
